Welcome to LEGO LAB!

           Lego Lab is the brain child of a passionate teacher, a science-obsessed principal, and a partnership with Lego Education.  For years, we were chasing a dream and deciding how this could  be implemented in our school.  We knew our students had a need in Science and application of science concepts.  We knew Lego has a way of engaging students in a unique and incomparable way.  We visited other schools that used Lego.  We invited Lego Education to train our staff.  We bought the Lego products, after much scraping together of funds.  Then, we just couldn't stop talking about all that using Lego allows our students to do.  We presented at conferences.  We taught lessons for Lego Education to film.  We did radio interviews.  We invited the media in.  We piloted new Lego education products.  We hosted regional training sessions at our school.  We couldn't stop talking because the good just kept coming!  This year, we opened a Lego Lab as a staffed engineering and science related arts area.  We wrote grants and said prayers.  We invited the media back to see us in action.  Now we are two weeks in and lessons seem to be coming together.  Students are embracing the teamwork and engineering mindset of the Lego Lab.  They are also receptive to the science concepts.  Of course, it's amazing fun.
           This blog is intended as a resource for those who are chasing the same Lego dream.  I will be posting here as I work my way through developing curriculum and implementing it in the Lego Lab.  Be forewarned, I am working towards a more Project Based Learning approach within the Lego Lab.  After students learn the basic science concepts they will apply into their own engineering, the gradual release of control will begin.
